Production Focus and Challenges

Weta has a couple sequences to work on here. One was the History Lesson sequence and some things related to the Genesis Chamber. We had lots of reference of Irish and Scottish scenery with selects to match to. My main contribution was helping to manage all the wides and integration of grass into the plates.

Otherwise tending to the Containment Facility and interiors of the Scout Ship/Genesis Camber kept me fairly busy.

The last asset that was quite challenging was shading the Motherships. Their design was meant to be 2km in diameter. The concept also required details that would be impossible to see at those distances but still needed to be present. The ship needed to appear “deep” like having an open core, when the model itself was a closed shape. It was challenging to implement emission based solution to appear like it was coming from an interior when it actually was not.
